HOW TO SURVIVE RETRENCHMENT IN YOUR PLACE OF WORK DURING THIS PERIOD OFGLOBAL ECONOMIC RECESSION

The present global economic crisis is biting hard to the extent that workers are bearing the burnt.  Employers have no other choice than to lay off workers as one of the measures to survive the crisis.
This situation has gotten to a stage that worker is not sure of his or her faith as a result of which unnecessary stress is now being created. Because of this I have decided to come up with the following tips that can be applied to survive the trend.

PRINCIPLE OF INCREASING AND SUSTAINING JOB PERFORMANCE

One of the first strategies is to put in your best performance at work.  Make sure you distinguish yourself in your career field.  By so doing record of your performance is noted and will be your savior when decision to downsize workforce is to be made.  Nobody changes or loses a result oriented worker.  They would first consider the redundant workers, those who constitute financial burden to the company in terms of health bill. Do your work satisfactorily and avoid making unnecessarily mistakes that will cost the company a lot of money. Once you do this you will always be in the good book of the management and will do everything to retain you because you have proved yourself to be a good asset to the company.

KEEPING BASE WITH CURRENT DEVELOPGICAL DEVELOMENT

Improving of skills through attainment of education courses will go a long way in helping you to retain your job.  For example there are several computer applications you can acquire to improve your productivity.  After training application of the skills to the benefit of the company will be a good evidence to convince the management of your ever important to the continuity of the company. Should in case opportunity occur where you can take part in voluntary work; make use of it to showcase your skills that will further convince all and sundry how you are very important to the company.  This will further cement your being preferred in the company.

FIND OUT YOUR MOTIVATIONAL STRENGTH

Take time to identify what can motivate you to work harder because people are found to perform higher when they discover their motivational strength.  For instance, some people get more motivated if they face challenges.  They see this as an opportunity to break the jinx of carrying out of particular task.  They are convinced that at the end of the day, they would have acquired the necessary skills in the process.

BE A GOOD STRESS MANAGER

Learn how to relate with your colleagues at work and avoid trivial issue that can lead to rancor or acrimony that may likely affect the peaceful atmosphere in the company.  Be tolerant and accommodating and always try to control your emotion.  Some workers are very unaccommodating and over reacted to little argument and consequently lead to physical fighting.  When this is very common with any worker and is noted by the management it can lead to termination of the worker service when the need arises.

LACK OF PUNCTUALITY, DEDICATION, LOYALTY AND UNTRUSTWORTHNESS

Build a good image for yourself; and ways of doing this is to be punctual at work, show a lot of dedication, loyal to the constituted authority and trustworthy worker.  Don’t resume work late and when you get there sit down and work!  Don’t close without finishing your work.  Some workers are fond of roaming about in the office or discussing the happenings in their houses thereby distracting the attention of serious worker from performing their work.  Avoid all this as much as possible.  You may think nobody sees you, but when it matters most that they want to take the decision of this magnitude you will be surprised it can make the management to include your name among the redundant workers.

All the aforementioned are some of the factors that lead to an employee termination because the workers that are so much in grudged in this attitude are tagged as none ready to fit in achieving their organizational objectives.
