THE POSSIBLE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAN LIMIT YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING PROMOTION AT WORK

The joy and expectation of every worker after securing job is to be able to advance in his or her career field as at when due, but sometimes, it does not work out that way due to circumstances beyond their controls.  Therefore making life miserable and frustrated and not knowing of next line of action as a result of scarcity of job out there!  Studies have however revealed some of the factors often found responsible for it to include lack of opportunity for the company expansion; company poor financial situation; your immediate boss showing indifferences to your plight and lack of possessing the perquisite qualification.

  • Lack of opportunity of expansion

 

There is no way you can be considered for promotion if there is no vacancy.  To avoid this situation it will be better if you found out from the onset the possibility of advancing your career before applying.  Or else, you have to wait for either when the substantive officer retires or resigns on condition that you have not reached the bar of your career field.  In this situation there is no point applying for promotion in the first instance,  even if you do, you begin looking for job whose propensity to advance is higher.

 

  • Company Poor Financial Situation

 

A company, which is struggling and losing a lot of money, will not entertain any application for promotion.  In fact any worker that does this will be considered as having lost focus in the organization and may be recommended for termination of appointment.  What you should do is to study the situation and if get better you can then put in your application for promotion.

 

  • Your immediate boss showing indifferences to your plight

 

Different people having different approach to issue; there are some people who are after the progress and advancement of their fellow human beings especially the junior ones.  These categories of people always love to have domineering power over others.  When they get to the top of ladder, they remove it.  We have them in abundant in African continent.  Therefore if your boss is found to possess this character, place him under study and when eventually found to be in good mood key in your application for promotion.  In the alternative, you can work your transfer out of his department without wasting much time.

 

  • Lack of Possessing Prequisite Qualification

 

Qualification for job promotion could either be as a result of having spent statutory number of times on a particular post and, in addition, possessing additional qualifications. If you have not availed yourself any of these aforementioned opportunities there is no way you can be considered for promotion.  Before you show interest in it at all make sure you meet all the conditions attached to the post. This will give you a save landing.

 

There is no doubt you will agree with me that all the aforementioned tips are some of the factors that can limit your chances of moving up in your career field in your organization; therefore if that is so there must be a way out and this will be coming up in my next publication.
