HOW TO DETECT JOB SCAM IN YOUR MAIL BOX



Some unscrupulous job employers otherwise known as job scammers found their ways into job seekers’ e-mails with the sole aim of defrauding them.  They pretend  as if wanted to offer them  jobs but tuned out to be dupers after fraudulently obtaining their victims personal data  to carry out their evil acts.  Many prospective employees have therefore fell into this scam thereby worsen the situation of their lives.


In order to save millions of job seekers from continued falling into this online job scams, there is need to highlight some of tricks used to dupe them.


  • You can received a mail message of offering a job without previously applying for it. Don’t honor it.
  • The job could also be  one you did not apply for or different from the one you applied for.  It is all scam.
  • Sometimes you are contacted through phone to supply non-work related information such as credit cards number or bank information.
  • At times, it is a mail message for you transfer certain of money for employment/recruited related purposes such as monies for immigration processing, visa processing or travelling processing.
  • If you discover that a company uses mail IDs or reply to IDs to contact you, ignore it.  For instance, if a company website like xyxpetroleumcompay is used to offer you job, investigate it on line; it might turn out to be one of the scammers we are talking about.  A real company is expected to use their domain names not free email provider.
  • If a company says it can pay you a lot of money without any commensurable job experience or skills, it might not be real.
  • If you did not apply to a company but contacted you to come for interview or asked you to resume work straight away, it is doubtful.  Scammers are very smart and have sweet words.  They can say you have made the list of finalists for interview.  Please ignore them.
  • Some vague companies make their e-mails sound like every applicant is qualified for a job.  For example, a scam company would say if you are eighteen years old or have knowledge of computer or can use internet leaving out key areas like experience and skills.  A real job would specify its requirement.
  • Unprofessional e-mail content
    Sometimes scammers’ emails could be found well written and others are often not.  To identify scam job email, it will contain a lot of wrong spellings, capitalization error, punctuation error and grammatical errors.  A real company would hire professional to package its recruitment process devoid of mistakes.


  • \If you are contacted through a personal telephone number or email address without any contact address, it is likely to be scam.
  • Search Results don’t add up
    If you are contacted for interview before you go search on line to determine the genuinety of the company.  Although, sometimes a company added up is no guarantee that is scam free, but in most cases most of these scammers do not added up when you search on line therefore if it is not found added up, it is not genuine.


Steps to take to control internet job scams


Having established that a company wanted to defraud you, take any of the following steps:


  • Report to Security Agents, police or State Security Agency (SSS)
  • Publish your experience with them for others not to fall their victims
  • Institute legal action against them if you found a contact person you can hold responsible or the company itself if is a registered one.
